Here we come! Mommy and Daddy are coming to get you in a little over a week. We can't wait to meet you!!!
I know I haven't posted here in a while, but we had quite a roller coaster of a summer waiting for our I-600A (U.S. immigration) approval. In the end, we ended up with more information about our son's birthfamily, which is a good thing. But the long wait, combined with the worry and anxiety caused by the bumps in the road, was more than I could handle some days. But on Day 78, we finally got approval from USCIS.
I thought I would learn via email. For weeks I have been sleeping with my computer right by my bed, checking it before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up. But this morning at 6:38 a.m., our adoption coordinator called us with the news--we have to be in Vietnam by Sept 10 for our official court date to adopt Sam. (Sept. 10 is also Ed's mom's birthday.) The email had come at 2 in the morning.
We are hoping to see as much of the country as possible, so we're leaving a few days earlier than necessary and staying an extra day at the end. Believe it or not, we leave in one week! Yes, seven days. We have lots to do to get ready, but I'm happy to be rushing around. And our agency is helping us with so much. I have to say, they really have worked hard for us this whole time.
Our good news is bittersweet, though, as so many families in the Vietnam adoption community are getting bad news this week that their adoptions will not be completed. I pray that they persevere and find their children, wherever they are. We certainly didn't initially plan on a son from Vietnam. But now I just know that this little boy is meant to be ours. We also remember his birthmother today, as we have learned some of her story and it is sad. Some days we wish we could adopt her, too. But we are grateful to her for giving Sam life, and we hope to be parents she would be proud of.
Thank you to everyone we know (and many of you we do not) who have been praying and cheering for us. We plan to blog while in Vietnam and hope to be able to share pictures of our new family soon.
